Annular Solar Eclipse 2010

Dreamway Destinations has an optional wing for specialized studies. Our tourism wings have various segments and the best features are that they are all separate wings dedicated for a particular segment of the packages. It may relate to Ornithology, Historical, Botanical, Biological, Zoological studies or it may be any naturally occurring phenomenon like eclipse.

We also organize school excursion with a purpose of either study or teambuilding activities. We can assist in the study and support available locally. Our support team arrange for all necessary arrangement related to such studies. Given below is a small write up of 2010 annular ring eclipse of the Sun and Moon.

One can find more details on this website as the date of each draws near. Times are in Universal Time (UT) and distances are in both kilometres and miles. On Friday, 2010 January 15, an annular eclipse of the Sun is visible from within a 300 kilometres / 200 Miles wide stretch that traverses half of Earth including Indian Ocean, Bangladesh, India, Myanmar (Burma), China, Chad, Uganda, Kenya, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Central African Republic and Somalia.

The Event - A few people may see and feel the spectacular event (ASE). Nature offers the drama and spectacle of an annular solar eclipse. Eclipse chasers are counting the days until January 15th January, 2010 when the lucky ones among them get to view the phenomenon. The event can be seen from South of the Indian Subcontinent and will be visible from a path that crosses the southern Indian Ocean. Please never look directly at the Sun even during an eclipse.

These cover - ups do not occur at every new and full Moon but occasionally do the Sun, Earth, and Moon line up exactly enough for an eclipse to occur as because the lunar orbit is tipped about 5° to Earth's orbital plane. Viewers can see a ring, or annulus of sunlight surrounding the lunar disk. But an annular rings path is likewise narrow and viewers outside the central line of it observers only a partial cover up. The eclipse path is almost entirely over the Indian Ocean and is 300 kilometres / 200 Miles wide.

The mid - eclipse is on 7:59 UT hence one can enjoy 7 minutes 54 seconds of annularity. The annular eclipse path traverses half of Earth including Indian Ocean, Bangladesh, India, Myanmar (Burma), China, Chad, Uganda, Kenya, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Central African Republic and Somalia Other events of the year 2010 related to eclipse both solar and Lunar are given below

The View – The Annular Ring or the ring of fire is the name for the central view of an annular eclipse of the Sun by the Moon. Annular solar eclipse occurs when the Moon's angular size is slightly less than the Sun's angular size and the relative distance between them. If the Moon is bit closer to Earth then a total solar eclipse (TSE) would have occurred or in other words an annular eclipse occurs when the Moon is on the far part of its elliptical orbit around the Earth.  When the Moon is directly in front of the Sun, the edges of the Sun are visible leading to annular solar eclipse.

The solar ring is so bright that the Moon's surface normally appears dark. The angular sizes of the Sun and Moon change slightly because of the elliptical nature of the Moon's and Earth's orbit. At the peak of this eclipse, the middle of the Sun will appears to be missing. The dark Moon will appear to be surrounded by the bright Sun.

Separate specialized solar eclipse packages including visit to places will be made available shortly. Contact - Sumanta Sarkar of Dreamway Destinations at www.dreamwaydestinations.com or Ring 9474092500 or mail at info@dreamwaydestinations.com

Packages for Port Blair and Kanya kumari will be made available shortly. We are in the process of consulting our guide and consultant to mark the right point near the center line.

Past Astronomical Event - Total Solar Eclipse 2009

The event was held at Siliguri, Jalpaiguri stretch. The sky was cloudy but the event created a strong awareness among the new generation. There were some sincere eclipse chaser flocking the area. Three such gentlemen were Mr. Chaitanya Dalal, Mr. Suresh Sali and Mr Uma Shankar from Mumbai.  The sky was cloudy and we missed the photography part but our esteem guest (Eclipse chaser) briefed us and encouraged us and we were optimistic about events like this. The event photograph are given below

On 22nd July, 2009 Total Solar Eclipse will be seen from here after a gap of nearly 221 years and the next such occasion will occur after another 114 years. This will be a rare occasion when one can watch all the phases of the eclipse. The whole phenomenon will occur for a period of over 2 hours. North eastern India especially northern part of West Bengal had last witnessed Totality of a TSE on 4th June, 1788 and will again come across the same on 14th May, 2124.

It will be an exceptional opportunity to come across such phenomenon visible only from the eastern hemisphere of the earth. From Siliguri (Lat: 26 N/ Long 88 E. Approx.) it will start around 05:30 hours. This phenomenon will stretch from the Gulf of Khambhat next reaches Surat in Gujarat cross central India covering places like Indore, Varanasi, Bhopal and Patna ultimately reaching north Bengal. In north Bengal the stretch passes through the forest lands of Dooars, Hilly terrain of Darjeeling or Sikkim, Urbanized areas like Siliguri.

Near Siliguri, beyond the city limits, our preset TSE observation location is around 20 Kilometres from centre line offering 3 minutes 45.8 second duration of totality. It is just beside a flat riverbed with little or no vegetation within 150 meters. This will allow viewers uninterrupted viewing of the sky. Contact timings details of the location are given below

Total Solar Eclipse 2009

Eclipse - Welcome to our Indian Total Solar Eclipse 2009 programme. This will be the longest eclipses of this century. Our observation point should give us a little under 4 minutes of totality.  The next astronomical event is the annular ring to be slated on 15th January, 2010

For those joining Dreamway Destinations team please contact us. We also are delightedto be backed by technical team of Sky Watchers association of North Bengal (SWAN) affiliated to Confederation of Indian Amateur Astronomers(CIAA) for their able support for any astronomical events. . Our location and tour plan have already been approved by them.
