Kalimpong

Kalimpong is a historic town nestled in the lush green ranges of the mid Himalayas. The town is located on a ridge connecting two hills, Deolo Hill and Durbin Hill. Situated at an elevation of 1247 meters Or 4091 feet. It is a tourist destination owing to its temperate climate and proximity to popular tourist locations in the region. The whole region around Kalimpong lies in the Eastern Himalayas and is classified as an ecological hotspot. Kalimpong is one of the greenest area. It is good for monsoon package. One can just stroll or drive around or take a hike but never will your eyes feel to rest. 

This hill station of has an incredible stunning backdrop of towering snow capped peaks of Himalayas. It is an exotic town of beautiful people, mystical and enchanting atmosphere. Kalimpong is home to colonial-era buildings like MacFarlane Memorial Church, named after a Scottish missionary, the hilltop Durpin Monastery, or Zang Dhok Palri Phodang, contains sacred Buddhist scriptures. Centrally and ideally located and is connecting all the major places of interest nearby lik4e Gangtok, Pelling, Darjeeling, Dooars. View of snow clad Himalayan ranges tower over the town in the distance. A hill station and a district headquarter in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is also known for its educational institutions which attract students from all over the world, some of the schools are Dr. Graham's homes, St. Augustine School, St. Joseph Convent and Rockvale Academy, etc.  

It has a blend of hill people with a tradition of hospitality. It is also a religious centre of Buddhism. This town is situated at an altitude high altitude with a moderate climate ranging from between 15°C to 25°C in summer and 07°C to 15°C in winter and heavy monsoon. It is approximately 90 kilometres from Siliguri, some 55 kilometers from Darjeeling  and 90 kilometers from Gangtok. Thereis one more scenic route to Kalimpong from Siliguri specially the Gorubathan & Bhuttabari route. This route passes through parts of Dooars.  Rikkisum, Sillery Gaon, Icchey Gaon, Jhandi, Nimpong, Mungsong, Lava, Lolaygaon, Deollo are beautiful spot with bad road Greenery and the valley around Kalimpong are mesmerizing and on a clear day the back drop of Himalaya is scenic and adds to the beauty of the locations. Kalimpong is historical and one can find old and heritage buildings of those bygone era. Even the state guest house is also historic called the Morgan house. It is Morgan House a classic example of colonial architecture. Kalimpong is also known for its nurseries and the strange part is that Cactus plantation is more. It has a flower market notable for its wide array of orchids; and it is one of the largest exporters of Himalayan grown flower bulbs, tubers and rhizomes.  

River Teesta is the main river in this region and the place is full of scenic villages all around. The place is also known for the beautiful number of cottages. People of this place are mostly Nepali, who came to this place during the reign of the British government in search of a job. This place is linked by National Highway 10. If planning to visit Kalimpong must stay here as it gives the wonderful opportunity of trekking and views to the most wonderful villages. Amongst the activities around Kalimpong, one can indulge in white water rafting [Which has lost its popularity after construction of Dam over River Teesta]. Communication / Connectivity

Airways – Bagdogra Airport (IXB) is approximately 90 kilometres from Kalimpong.  Bagdogra airport is served by regular Indian Airlines, Spice Jet, Indigo, Druk Air, Indian Airlines and Jet Airways. There are daily flights from Chennai., Bangalore, Kolkata, Guwahati, Delhi, etc. The airport is well connected by roadways and railways. It also serves for Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan & the Indian state of Sikkim. Taxi as well as Private vehicles for nearby tourist spots are available from the airport. It is also having flight  to & fro to Bangkok & Paro. It is advisable to book vehicle earlier through net or contact as during season & festival the supply and seat reduces. 

Railways – New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP) is approximately 90 kilometres away and is the nearest major railway station. Kalimpong is just close to National Highway 10. It will soon be close by Railway also. The two closest railway stations are Siliguri and New Jalpaiguri and coming up is Rangpo.There are regular train services to all the major railway station like Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Patna, Mumbai, Guwahati, Bangalore, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Jaipur, Agra, etc. Taxi as well as Private vehicles for nearby tourist spots are available from the airport. 

Roadways – Situated near National Highway 10, branches off from National Highway number 10 and at a distance of 90 kilometres from Siliguri is Kalimpong. Darjeeling town is 55 Mirik is 90 kilometers from Gangtok. It is a little over a 170 kilometres from Phuentsholling (Bhutan Border Town), 125 Kilometres is Kakarvitta (Nepal Border Town), Banglabandha (Border town of Bangladesh) is nearly 100 kilometres from Kalimpong. Kalimpong town is well connected to most of the tourist place of the Region like Pelling, Gangtok, Namchi, Dooars, etc. Road connecting Kalimpong to Gorubathan is 717 A
