Lamahatta & Peshok

Lamahatta - This small settlement is situated halfway between Darjeeling & Kalimpong Route via Peshok.  It is a picturesque mountain village situated at an altitude of nearly 5400 feet. It is surrounded on all sides by pine forests and gardens with panoramic views of Mount Kanchenjungha. Lamahatta is an ideal holiday destination for tourists who wish to get away from the hustle and bustle of urban life and stay in solitude. It is made beautiful by the ideal location. Namchi is visible from here, with its rare and beautiful species of flowers carpeting the landscape and surrounding gardens. The place is well-connected to all major tourist hubs like Darjeeling, Pelling, Namchi and Kalimpong. The park / Garden is one of  major attractions. The garden pread over a wide expanse, surrounded by pine forests containing numerous seasonal flowers, as well as several rare and exotic species of orchids.  The watch tower also helps visitors to enjoy panoramic views of Mt. Kanchenjunga as well as the Sikkim Hills, the River Teesta and the River Rangeet. Pine Forest / Tea Garden are the best place to rest. One can also hike to the two sacred ponds situated at the top of the hills guarded by pine forests. Bird watching in the surrounding forests is also a great option for interested guests. The most popular trail of nearly 08 kilometres from Lamahatta to Takdah through pine forests is worth it.  Runglee-Rungliot Tea Estate is nearby and is known for the fine blend, and awesome aroma. One can enjoy the heady cup of freshly brewed tea, which will really soothe their senses. The other tea estates to visit are Takdah, Peshok and Teesta Valley, each of which has their own beauty. Nearby attractions of are Darjeeling and Kalimpong each one is 25 to 30 kilometres from here. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (which is a UNESCO heritage site) and the Himalayan Zoo (housing several rare and endangered species of animals such as the Tibetan wolf and the Red Panda) and Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) are a must visit for a day. Another nearby location is Takdah located very close to the Runglee Rungliot area of the Darjeeling district. The homestays are of various standard with standard facilities with even 02 rooms. Communication / Connectivity

Airways –  Bagdogra Airport (IXB) is approximately 100 kilometres from Darjeeling. Bagdogra airport is served by regular Indian Airlines, Spice Jet, Kingfisher and Jet Airways. There are daily flights from Kolkata, Guwahati and Delhi. The airport is well connected by road and railways. Private vehicles for nearby tourist spots are available from the airport.

Railways – Darjeeling has a narrow gauge Junction with the heritage train plying from New Jalpaiguri (NJP) to Darjeeling on daily basis. New Jalpaiguri (NJP) is approximately 100 kilometres away and is the nearest major railway station. New Jalpaiguri (NJP) station has all the three gauges i.e. Narrow, Meter and Broad. There are regular train services to all the major railway station like Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Patna, Mumbai, etc. 

Roadways –  It nearly 25 kilometres from Darjeeling & Kalimpong and is approximately 80 kilometres from Bagdogra Airport (IXB) / New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP) / Siliguri in West Bengal.Situated nearly 20 kilometres from the National Highway number 10. Branches off from National Highway number 31 and at a distance of 90 kilometres from Siliguri is Darjeeling. It is approximately 100 kilometres from Bagdogra Airport (IXB). It is a little over a 115 kilometres from Gangtok, and approximately 60 kilometres from Kalimpong. Darjeeling is well connected to Siliguri by  four alternate routes.
