Rangbhang Valley, Saurini, Taba Koshi


Rangbhang is close to Mirik and is situated at an altitude of 4200 feet. It is a calm and Himalayan village dotted with orange orchards. It is a comfortable homestay with picturesque cottages, along with all basic amenities. It is ideally located in the lap of nature. Rangbhang Homestay runs by the local Gurung Family. It is located in Schooldara village. It is close to Mirik Busty nearly 05 kilometers away from the popular Mirik lake. The bungalow type cottages are surrounded by plenty of ‘Orange Orchards’, a variety of flowers, and various species of plants. Rangbhang Homestay could be a nice destination to relax in the lap of the mountains. The food served is delicious food (Vegetarian), if guests can direct or help them cook it will be a bonus to interact with them. Food tastes better as they are homegrown and without any pesticide or fertilizer. Villagers are generally dependent on agriculture, owning acres of land on the slope of hills, and vast knowledge of the flora in this region. Rangbhang is the name of the local river and the homestay has adopted it. Nearby is Mirik Lake, Pashupati Market of Nepal worth visiting. It is nearly 60 kilometers and takes around 02½ - 03 hours’ drive by scenic road from New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP), Tenzing Norgay Bus Terminus (Junction), Sikkim Nationalised Transport (SNT), Siliguri, and Bagdogra Airport (IXB).  Sumedhu / Mirik lake is half an hour from Mirik.  The places nearby cannot be accessed on foot. Guests / Tourists / Traveler will need to hire a cab and enjoy seeing yourself in the most authentic hillside villages and the scenic beauty of the place. 

Soureni / Sourenee is in the Mirik subdivision of the Darjeeling district, in West Bengal, India. Dakman Rai, a famous Nepali Sardar (landlord), was given large tracts of land by the British during the establishment of tea gardens in Darjeeling. These included Soureni, Phuguri, and Samripani. His descendant later sold off the estate to the Tiwari brothers, Ramlal and Jalooram Tiwari. The Soureni Tea Estate was sold off by the Tiwari’s in 1990. It is presently owned by Titagarh Wagons Ltd and produces tea and is largely exporting Darjeeling tea. An enormous contribution was made by Mr. Lingwood. Places of tourist interest are Soureni-Tingling Viewpoint, perhaps the most pleasing and eye-soothing in entire North-East India with a meandering road amidst the green slopes of the tea gardens. Hallaney a viewpoint with ridge road of Kurseong and the plains of North Bengal on the one side and the hills of Nepal, with the well-known Antu Dara. 

Bunkulung a developing commercial and agricultural village in the valley near the Balasun River. Ecotourism and home-stay facilities are being promoted in this area. Soureni Busty with numerous orange orchards. Tea Gardens like Soureni Tea Estate, Mechi Tea Estate, Phuguri Tea Estate, Thurbo Tea Estate, Rangbhang Tea Estate, Tingling Tea Estate, Singbull Tea Estate, Ghayabaree, and Millikthong Tea Estates. A brilliant place to stay inside a nice tea estate is Sourenee Tea Estate & Boutique Resort. Within the pristine ecological surrounds of this estate, perched on a hillock at 4500 feet along the rolling hills of tea surrounded by Pine trees, is the magnificent Bungalow. Places of interest include orange orchards, flowing Dodhiya river, trimmed tea garden, birds, and a great view of Kurseong at night makes the place attractive. Other attractions are enjoy camping and picnics on the banks of River Balasun, Fishing / Angling in the nearby river, and Village treks to nearby villages with orange orchards. Visit a Tea factory and tea gardens in Murmah and Gayabari. Sumedhu lake & Bokar Monastery in Mirik.

Taba Koshi is a village located in the foothills of Darjeeling and Mirik. The destination is known as an offbeat site near Mirik. Offbeat Destination, where tea tourism, village tourism, adventure tour has been promoted by the local Administration for the growth of Tourism in the region. All the drive to nearby places is through the breathtaking scenic mountainside, tea gardens, forests, and hamlets. Tabakoshi is situated in the bank of river Rangbhang and Gopaldhara Tea estate. The place is relatively peaceful compared to other destinations. Tent accommodation at the riverbank can be arranged by the locals or homestay owner as per request. Places of interest to visit in Tabakoshi in around includes a half-day tea trial, viewpoint, and Lamlamey Waterfalls, river excursion, etc. Excursion to river valley & Tabakoshi park & Temple. Full day excursion to Pashupati market (India-Nepal border) and Mirik lake. Also, a visit to Soureni is worth it. Homestay offers comfortable & secure accommodation in this area.
