Yumesamdong is also known as Zero Point and is nearly 26 kilometres from Lachung. Its one of the tourist spot in North Sikkim and can be reached from Lachung. One has to stay overnight in Lachung to visit Yumesamdong. These are places to visit during winter or spring i.e. Mid November to Mid April. Best time of the year is March - April. During this time the area will be mostly snow covered & road is motorable. The wind is strong and the oxygen content is less as because its situated in quite high altitude with minimum vegetation. During last week of December to April first week it is all covered with snow. One can spot Yak & Blue sheep which is extremely rare grazing on the pasture. Yumesamdong is popularly known as Zero Pont, it is not included in the standard package of North Sikkim. It is an optional sightseeing and supplement cost has to be paid on spot. Yomesamdong along with Yumthang, hot water spring and Katao make Lachung an extremely attractive travel destination. Katao cannot be visited unless Army permit is issued on spot. Lachung stay will have to be of two nights to visit all these places. North Sikkim packages generally include Yumthang and Hot water spring. Rest all the places are covered at supplementary cost. There is snow all around without much vegetation near Zero point and in general yet the the place is amazing. One cannot visit Yumthang Valley, Zero Point, Katao in the same day. One has to stay or arrive Lachung on the previous night. Next day morning Yumthang Valley and Katao can be visited and stay at Lachung is necessary. The very next day visit to Yumesamdong and return to Gangtok is the standard procedure. The Vehicle, Hotel, Food etc is in packages from Gangtok as there are formalities of Inner Line Permit (ILP) to be obtained by the agent or operators. Voter ID card / Driving License / Similar ID card is required along with 4 passport size photograph is required for permit to be issued in the previous night. Sikkim is very close to Peoples Republic of China’s border and the Defense establishment tends to keep security at its best. By the way, foreign citizens are completely forbidden from visiting few places in North Sikkim and Nathu La pass. Three nights i.e Four days permit can be obtained. hence only three night stay can be managed.
The nearest airport is Bagdogra Airport (IXB) and is nearly 250 kilometres. Chopper service is available for Gangtok from Bagdogra otherwise one has to drive to Gangtok nearly 130 kilometres via national highway 10. Gangtok to Lachung is 5 - 6 hours drive and requires Inner Line Permit (ILP). The nearest major railway Station is New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP). From New Jalpaiguri Railway Station one has to drive to Gangtok nearly 130 kilometres. Guest has to drive to Gangtok nearly 130 kilometres from Siliguri. Next with one night rest at Gangtok and after permit is issued move to Lachung in 5 - 6 hours drive. From Lachung one can visit Yumthang nearly 25 kilometres.
